Hiring cloth nappies is a great way to try a variety of brands and styles before buying your own stash. Many nappy hire services market themselves as Cloth Nappy Libraries, so use that term when searching online.

Nappy libraries provide a range of styles and brands. Bundles are usually split into newborn nappies or one-size-fits-most (OSFM). The business owner usually provides advice and support to help you.

Just like a book library but with nappies!

Compare prices and fit of different nappies side by side together in one place on your baby without the additional postage costs and hassle of buying several trial packs from various suppliers or trawling through buy and sell pages prices. And just like a real library – if you don’t see a nappy you want to try – request it and we can try to get it in by the time you need it!

Hire terms are for a set duration, for example, six weeks. There is usually the option to extend the hire period on a week-to-week basis.

Example hire packages:

  • part-time newborn nappy bundle
  • full-time newborn nappy bundle
  • part-time OSFM nappy bundle
  • full-time OSFM nappy bundle

Your local council might offer a rebate or subsidy, so discuss that before purchasing.

Sanitising between hires

Before hiring, ask how the service sanitises cloth nappies between uses. If the service does not sanitise as per Australian Laundering Standards (AS/NZS 4146-2000), or the relevant laundering standards in your country (ie. using heat or chemicals to sanitise) between hires, use a service that does.

Alternatively, review our cloth nappy index, and use it as a basis to buy nappies on the second-hand market.
